Secure Work Email on Personal Devices (BYOD Awareness)
Using your personal phone or tablet for work email adds convenience—but also risk.
- Always enable screen lock (PIN, fingerprint, or face ID)
- Do not share your device with others when work email is accessible
- Enable device encryption (most modern phones support this by default)
- Turn on remote tracking & wipe (e.g., Find My Device / iPhone)
- Use official email apps only (Outlook)
- Do not forward work emails to personal accounts
- Log out of work apps when not in use
- Avoid connecting to unsecured Wi-Fi when checking work email
- Disable notifications preview on lock screen (to hide sensitive content)
- Be careful with Bluetooth and AirDrop/file sharing in public places
- Keep your device updated with the latest security patches
- Never download unknown apps that could access your data
- Report immediately if your device is lost, stolen, or compromised
👉 If your personal device is compromised, your work email—and sensitive government information—can be exposed. Your personal device becomes an extension of the government network—treat it with the same level of security.
